Getting Started with Losing Weight

They say that you have to set a goal in order to reach it. With weight loss, however, the first thing you have to do is to face where you are now. Weighing in, writing it down, and then weighing in at some kind of regular interval (once a week, once every two weeks) is even more important than deciding your end goal. It is definitely okay to have intermediate goals. If deciding to lose 80 lbs seem so overwhelming that it makes you grab for the next chocolate bar in desperation, set a small, attainable goal. Five lbs, or ten lbs. Anyone can lose five lbs, right? After you have reached a couple of small goals, the large goal will look more attainable. Then you can focus on the “half-way there” goal. And once you get that far, focus on how far you have come!

Perhaps this can apply to lots of goals that seem overwhelming. Paying down all of your student debt. Cleaning up all the rooms of a house. Break up your goal into attainable, less intimidating portions and then congratulate yourself when you meet each one of these now separate goals. Pretty soon you will build your self-confidence to the point where you can tackle large goals all at once:)

I’ve done this before, with some good results. I can’t remember where I first saw it, but they called it “chunking.”

    Nice post!
