Making the Time to Do What You Love
My first stab at a title was “Finding the Time to Do What You Love.” But it’s not about finding it. It’s not like I’m going to walk outside one morning and find a package of hours from Amazon Prime.
No. It’s about making the time to do what’s important.
In one sense, I’m very lucky. I have a very clear idea of what makes me happy and feel fulfilled. Writing is at the top of that list, both for you and for long-term projects.
When I don’t write, I get frustrated. It’s like I’m nicking away at my soul until I start doing what’s important to me. When I’m off course, I could be a poster child for how not to follow Stephen Coveys 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Consequently, I’ve restarted the work I began on a novel about a year ago. I was horrified, in fact, when I saw the last file change dates and discovered it had been almost a year to the day since I’d last saved the file!
I also recently entered a writing contest with my partner, so that also nurtured my creative side.
What will I do to maintain a steady creative flow? Here are a few ideas that I hope will help you keep on course, too, with what is important to you. I’m going to :
1. Accept that I have to work with the time that I have. I fantasize regularly about taking a month – or at least a week! – off to work on my novel. I can try to manifest that all I want, but for whatever reason I’m blocking myself. I can either let it block my writing, too, or I can just write. I’m going to write. Time is not my enemy, and I don’t have to push against.
2. Take my own advice and take baby steps (Daily Time Management Tips). I don’t have to write 10 pages a day (although that’s a great day to whip out a draft in 30 days). I just have to do something *every* day.
3. Take my own advice (How to Get Back on Track) and write when I first get up in the morning. I’m amazed at how quickly I get lost down the rabbit hole of email.
How do you create more time for the things that are important to you?
Great post!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
